UPCOMING PRODUCTIONS

Kingfishers
(2014)

A modern-day adaptation of the Metamorphosis myth, Alcyone - with a bit of a twist. After a successful workshop performance this past June, VKL Dancetime (Kelly Colburn, Lauren Ullrich, and Vincent Graham), are joining forces with Hybrid Theatre Ensemble to produce the second round of drafting and developing of this modern myth.

Alcyone, the rebellious daughter of Zeus and Hera is set to marry another young God in the Olympic pantheon. At the last minute, with her mother’s help, she escapes Olympus and disappears into a world she’s always admired and dreamed of from afar: Earth. There, she meets a handsome, young sailor named Ceyx. They fall in love and promise to never part from each other. However, her father Zeus, enraged at his wife’s betrayal and his daughter’s disobedience, goes to Earth himself to take her back to Olympus.

Amidst the epic struggle between father and daughter, Ceyx is killed in cosmic rage. Vowing never to return to Olympus, Alcyone attempts to kill herself, but is unable to because she is immortal. And so, Zeus and Hera put aside their differences and attempt to bring their daughter not just back home, but back from the depths of her depression.

KINGFISHERS takes us on a journey to discover the power of love to transcend time, space, form and mortality.

CIRCUIT SHOW
(TBD)

"There are two sides to the Gay World: one that is full of love and celebration and the other that is full of sex and demise."

Circuit Show is a theatrical experience that is truly one of a kind set inside the world of the Gay Circuit. Pairing this gay microcosm with something straight out of a Lewis Caroll novel,  Circuit Show brings together performers of various types and backgrounds. This show is a gay-venture down the rabbit hole jam-packed with drag queens, go-go boys, twinks, fairies, male impersonators, live gay-tainers, and every thing possibly imaginable (or unimaginable).

Not only does Circuit Show offer a spectacle unlike any other experience, it is also a big gay party, a night of freedom and extravagance, a journey into the world of gay fantasia, and pulse-pounding peformances of one's deepest and darkest homo-erotic desires. At the core of this party, this night that is never to be forgotten, lies an exposition, an uncovering of truth. This investigation looks deep into the dark side of the Gay World and winds through alleyways littered with sex, drugs, disease, and death.

Welcome to the greatest night(mare) of your life...

iREVOLUTION.
(TBD)

iREVOLUTION is a clear depiction of the world in which we live today and sheds light on how we, as humans, have adapted our lives and ability to communicate. The evolution of technology has greatly altered human interaction and man's techno-dependency. Our world is one full of palm-gadgets where humans can bank, shop, and start cars with the press of a button or a tap of a screen. iREVOLUTION takes the ability of these devices and puts them to test in a theatrical setting, literally within the walls of a theatre.

This show questions how dependent man has become on our precious wireless devices, the adaptions one has undergone to communicate in today's society, and what happens when this  appendage is cut off. Our world of communication has undergone a drastic makeover, but is this change undoubtedly for the best? What happens when the screen dims, the signal fades, and the power dies for good?

SEVEN SIDES OF SARAH KANE
(TBD)

Seven Sides of Sarah Kane is an autobiographical piece about the late playwright, Sarah Kane. Kane was an extraordinary woman, who during her 28 years, produced five amazingly misunderstood works for the stage that were often misconstrued as anger, sadness, relentless, emotional disfunction, and to some extremes regarded as filth and trash. Within her short life and the words she left the theatre with lies something deeper, something that  lives all around us, love.

This piece delves deep into the mind of a young and troubled poet/playwright where a beautiful soul was trapped inside. Sarah Kane changed the face of theatre through her heart-wrenching and provocative work. Within Seven Sides of Sarah Kane, lies an investigation into the demons lodged deep in her mind, soul, and writing. This play scrutinizes the voice that was dying to be heard through Sarah Kane’s ingenious text, autobiographical research, and devised personal pieces of poetry by Hybrid’s own ensemble members.
